Research
While researching my animal, I was fascinated by the juxtaposition between the cultural image of a rabbit and the animal’s lived experience. The life of a prey animal is one of immense stress and hardship. I gathered images I felt captured this energy well.
Sketches
In order to capture the frantic nature of the rabbit, I chose to prioritize a strong line of action and keep away from anything too cute.Refinements
From there, I experimented with techniques to create the animal and what features to emphasize for greatest recognizability.
Expansion
Once I had a mark I was happy with, the next step was to place it within a composition. Using a simplified version of the Fibbonachi sequence, I experimented with different ways to use both text and image to capture the frantic nature of a rabbit’s life.
